las Primeras Semanas de la Escuela 2014-2015

Terminamos el mes de septiembre muy pronto.  Profes mejor conocemos nuestros estudiantes, estudiantes son más cómodos con el trabajo diario, y el tiempo está cambiando enfrente de nuestros ojos. Hoy, ustedes van a escribir sobre sus experiencias escolares durante estas primeras semanas en un párrafo de al menos 50 palabras aquí en el comentario de este blog.

The Issue of Unaccompanied Minors

We have been reading articles in class about the thousands of unaccompanied minors entering the United States from Spanish-speaking countries. Under a US law dating back to the Bush Administration, these children from noncontiguous countries may stay in the US legally while awaiting disposition of their cases.  We have read and discussed articles from conservative and liberal perspectives, as well as a an article presenting a collection of research, and one from the Post Standard addressing the potential housing locally of a group of these refugees in the city of Syracuse.  In groups, students were asked to discuss what they read and write an opinion piece in Spanish.  You will see them posted below.  We encourage comment!

Cantante argentino Gustavo Cerati se Murió

Gustavo Cerate 1959-2014

After years in a coma following a stroke while performing,  beloved Argentine rocker Gustavo Cerati has passed.  Member of the band Soda Stereo, Cerati was an innovative musician, often fusing musical styles to create something uniquely his own.  He will be missed.

Arroz con Leche Cubano

Para el primer día de la escuela, comimos arroz con leche. Es un postre típico del país de Cuba.

Durante el año escolar, vamos a celebrar las culturas varias del mundo hispanohablante con imágenes, video, música...y iCOMIDA! Hay estudiantes que están nerviosos frente de sabores nuevos, pero cuando estamos aprendiendo de culturas nuevas, experiencia es el mejor profesor.

Vuelta al Cole

¡Bienvenidos!  We are so entusiasmadas to be back, and we hope you are too! This first aporte is in Spanglish because as an ESMSPANISH blog, it will be used for all levels, Pine Grove and High School, and we will be collaborating with our Spanish speaking ESL estudiantes as well as connecting with Spanish estudiantes from other escuelas.  We will also post weekly cultural trivia preguntas that you can answer for prizes.  We encourage padres to visit and participate in our blog as well!

We are looking forward to a fantastico year of learning and connecting!
